κἀπὶ τῷ: ‘by reason of what?’ Here “ἐπί” with dat. denotes cause or occasion (rather than aim, ‘with a view to what?’). Cp. El. 333ἀλγῶ ᾿πὶ τοῖς παροῦσιν” (and ib. 1230): Ph. 174<*>λύει δ̓ ἐπὶ παντί τῳ χρείας ἱσταμένῳ”.
