ἔμελλες: cp. 1027: Ph. 1083ὥς σ᾽ οὐκ ἔμελλον ἄῤ, τάλας”, | “λείψειν.— χρόνῳ”: because, for several days, he had been brooding over his wrongs (930 f.): cp. 193μακραίωνι ...σχολᾷ”. The words of Odysseus in 1336 f. also imply such an interval between the award of the arms and the death of Ajax.
