ἐξ ὑπερτέρας χερός: “ἐκ” ex presses the condition: cp. Tr. 875ἐξ ἀκινήτου ποδός”: Ph. 91 n.

ζῶντ̓, instead of dying first, as his foes hope. The thought is, ‘may he live to do it.’
