ἀλλ᾽ οὐ γὰρ, elliptical: ‘But (I will argue no more), for,’ etc.: cp. 223 n.

πᾶσαν ἵης γλῶσσαν, poet. for “πᾶσαν φωνὴν ἵης”: cp. fr. 843. 3 “πολλὴν γλῶσσαν ἐκχέας μάτην”: Tr. 323διήσει γλῶσσαν” (n.). Legg. 890 D “πᾶσαν, τὸ λεγόμενον, φωνὴν ἱέντα”, i.e., ‘with all possible earnestness.’ Euthyd.p. 293 A “πᾶσαν ἤδη φωνὴν ἠφίειν, δεόμενος τοῖν ξένοιν...σῶσαι ἡμᾶς”.
