ἐκδέχου, excipe. The idea of the compound is, ‘be ready for him,’—prepared to deal with him the moment that he appears. The figurative use of the word in Her. 4. 1 is essentially the same, —“Σκύθας...κατιόντας ἐς τὴν σφετέρην ἐξεδέξατο οὐκ ἐλάσσων πόνος” (as if it had been lying in wait for them).
