Ζῆναὅρκιον, Zeus, the guardian of oaths,—who punishes men who break them. In the “βουλευτήριον” at Olympia there was a statue of “Ζεὺς Ὅρκιος”, with a thunderbolt in each hand ( Paus. 5. 24. 9). Cp. O.C. 1767 “χὡ πάντ᾽ ἀΐων Διὸς Ὅρκος” (n.). Eur. Hipp. 1025νῦν δ᾽ ὅρκιόν σοι Ζῆνα καὶ πέδον χθονὸς” | “ὄμνυμι”: id. Eur. Med. 208τὰν Ζηνὸς ὁρκίαν Θέμιν”.
