Κρεῖσσον λόγου—cf. c. 41, 3, but here = ‘not to be described.’

χαλεπωτέρως—see ἐνδεεστέρως 35, 2.

κατὰ —quam pro.

ἐδήλωσε .. ὂν—cf. v. 9 δείξω οὐ παραινέσαι οἷός τε ὤν. For the aor. cf. c. 51, 5.

ἄπτεται—cf. c. 48, 2.

ἀτύφων—see c. 52.


Τεκμήριον δέ—see c. 15, 4: only here without γὰρ fol- lowing.

ἄλλως—‘at all,’ after περὶ τοιοῦτον. περὶ τοιοῦτον —i.e. περὶ τὰ σώματα. αἴσθησιν παρεῖχον—‘gave an opportunity of observing the effect’ (on animals).

ἀποβαίνοντος —cf. c. 87, 3 ἀποβάντι, the imperf. being used here of the repeated result. In c. 11, 9 the plur was used, pres. partic. of the result as it will affect each man.
