πεζὸς—for π. στρατός. The ellipse of a masc. non-personal noun is rare: this one is found only in Herod. and Thuc.

ἐπειδὴ καὶ—cf. et ipse common in Livy.

εἶδον —sc. ὁρμισαμένους. Cf. c. 11, 8.
