IUPPITER SOTER, ARA

an altar on the Capitol, mentioned only once (Serv. Aen. viii. 652 : hodieque ara in Capitolio est Iovis Soteris 1). The direct translation of Ζεὺς σωτήπ is thought to be Iuppiter Liberator (Rosch. ii. 663, 731).

1 So Daniel: MSS. Sutoris; Thilo prefers Tutoris.
