LUCUS LIBITINAE
a grove sacred to Venus Libitina, probably on the
Esquiline, near the porta Esquilina and the early necropolis. This was
the headquarters of the undertakers (Libitinarii), and here lists of the
dead were kept and all provision made for funerals (
