[436] The εὐναί are heavy stones with hawsers thrown out to moor the bows of the ship, while the stern is secured by the stern ropes (“πρυμνήσια”) to moorings on shore, probably to a stone with a hole set up for the purpose (“τρητὸς λίθοςOd. 13.77).
