[607] ἀμφιγυήεις, a disputed word, generally explained ‘ambidextrous,’ or utrinque validis artubus instructus, which overlooks the fact that there is nothing in the word to express validis. Probably the word really means ‘with a crooked limb on each side’ = “κυλλοποδίων”, from a noun *“γύη” = crook (cf. “γύης” in Lexx.). This comes to the same as the old der. from “γυιός”, ‘lame of both feet.’ Cf. also “ἀμφίγυος13.147, etc.
