[322] 322-24. “ἀθετοῦνται στίχοι τρεῖς, ὅτι οὐκ ἐνέσχηται τῆι ἀσπίδι τὸ δόρυ τοῦ Ἀχιλλέως, ἀλλὰδιὰ πρὸ Πηλιὰς ἤϊξεν μελίη” (276) “καὶἐγχείη δ᾽ ἄρ᾽ ὑπὲρ νώτου ἐνὶ γαίηι” (279). “πῶς οὖν Ποσειδῶν ἐκ τῆς ἀσπίδος ἤρυσε τὸ δόρυ;” The An.difficulty may be evaded if we suppose that the spearshaft had carried the shield with it; but this is not the simple sense of 276-79, and the lines are quite needless.
