ἄοιν-ος , ον,
A.without wine, ἄοινοι χοαί, offered to the Erinyes, A.Eu.107 (whence they are themselves called ἄοινοι, S. OC100); ἀοίνοις ἐμμανεῖς θυμώμασιν frenzied with the wine of wrath, A.Eu.860; “ἄ. συμπόσιον” Thphr. ap. Plu.2.679a; “νηφαντικὴ καὶ ἄ. κρήνη” Pl.Phlb.61c.
2. of men, having no wine, sober, X.Cyr.6.2.27; also of a place, having none, ib.26.
3. without use of wine, “ἀοινοτέρα τροφή” Arist.Pol.1336a8; “ἄοινος μέθη” Plu.2.716a.
