ἐπιδεύομαι , Ep. for ἐπιδέομαι (v. ἐπιδέω (B) 11), be in want of, lack, c. gen. rei, “χρυσοῦ ἐπιδεύεαιIl.2.229, cf. Od.15.371, Nic.Th.57; need the help of, c. gen. pers., “σεῦ ἐπιδευομένουςIl.18.77.
II.. to be lacking in, fall short of, c. gen. rei, “μάχης ἐπιδεύομαι23.670, cf. 17.142: also c. gen. pers., πολλὸν κείνων ἐπιδεύεαι ἀνδρῶν fallest far short of them, 5.636; or both together, “οὔ τι μάχης ἐπιδεύετ᾽ Ἀχαιῶν24.385: later c. acc. rei, “ἀλκήνA.R.2.1220.—The Act. occurs only in Aeol. fut. inf. ἐπιδεύσην, f.l. in Sapph.2.15 (v. ἐπιδευής).
