A.insolent, presumptuous (never of persons in Hom. or Hes.); in Hom. only ὑπέροπλον εἰπεῖν to speak insolently, presumptuously, Il.15.185,17.170; in Hes., ἠνορέη, βίη ὑπέροπλος, Th. 516,619,670; “ἀτασθαλίηOrph.Fr.120; “ἥβαPi.P.6.48; of persons, Λαπίθαι . ib 9.14.
II. big, mighty, ἀνὴρ . a monstrous man, Theoc. 22.44; of fishes, Opp.H.1.103, etc.
III. of conditions, overwhelming,ἄταPi.O.1.57; “μηδὲν μέγα μηδ᾽ .Ps.-Phoc.59 (v.l. ὑπέροφρυ, cf. Hsch.).—Ep. word.
