II. χι_άζω, mark with two lines crossing like a X:—Pass., “ζῷα δυσὶ γραμμαῖς κεχιασμέναD.S.2.58: esp. of words or lines in which the critic wishes to point out something remarkable, τὸ δὲ τοιοῦτον κεχίασται Sch.S.Ph.201; χιάζεται στίχος (in allusion to the word Ἑλένη) Sch.E.Or.81, etc.; absurdly expld. by Eust.1462.41.
2. Rhet., arrange four clauses crosswise, Hermog.Inv.4.3, Porph. in Cat.79.6.
3. make a cruciform incision, Antyll. ap. Orib.44.20.31 (χιεζοῦμεν codd.).
4. cross out, cancel a document, PFlor.61.65 (i A. D.), POxy.1282.34 (i A. D.), etc.
