πρυτανεία 1 πρυτανεύω

I.the prytany or presidency, at Athens a period of 35 or 36 days, about 1/10 of a year, during which the prytanes of each φυλή in turn presided in the βουλή and ἐκκλησία, Oratt.; ἑνδεκάτῃ τῆς πρυτανείας (sc. τῆς Πανδιονίδος) on the 11th of the presidency of the Tribe Pandionis, Dem.
II.any public office held by rotation, πρ. τῆς ἡμέρης the chief command for the day, held by each general in turn, Hdt.
