ἀνακαλέω call up the dead, Aesch.; so in Mid., Eur. call again and again: invoke, appeal to, θεούς Hdt., etc.;—so in Mid., Soph., Eur. summon, cite, Hdt.:—Mid. to call to oneself, send for, summon, id=Eur., Thuc. call by a name, ἀν. κακούς Eur.; Δαναούς Thuc.:—Pass., Ἀργεῖος ἀνακαλούμενος Soph. call on, so as to encourage, Thuc.; Mid., ἀνακαλεῖσθαι τὰς κύνας to cheer on the hounds, Xen. call back, recall, mostly in Mid., Aesch.; esp. from exile, Plat.; ἀνακαλεῖσθαι τῆι σάλπιγγι to sound a retreat, Xen.
