ἀπέχω keep off or away from, τινά or τί τινος Il.: absol. to keep off, Eur. keep apart, part, κληῖδες ἀπ᾽ ὤμων αὐχέν᾽ ἔχουσιν the collar-bones part the neck from the shoulders, Il.
II.Mid., ἀπὸ χεῖρας ἔχεσθαί τινος (in tmesi) to hold one's hands off or away from, Od.: also, ἀπέχεσθαί τινος to hold oneself off a thing, abstain or desist from it, Hom., Hdt., etc.
2.c. inf., ἀπέχεσθαι ποιεῖν or μὴ ποιεῖν τι to abstain from doing a thing, Thuc., etc.
III.intr. in Act. to be away or far from, c. gen. loci, id=Thuc.; also, ἀπ. ἀπὸ Βαβυλῶνος, etc., Hdt.: absol. to be distant, Xen.
2.of actions, to be far from, ἀπεῖχον τῆς ἐξευρέσιος were far from the discovery, Hdt.; πλεῖστον ἀπ. τοῦ ποιεῖν to be as far as possible from doing, Xen. have or receive in full, τὸν μισθόν NTest., Plut.
V.impers., ἀπέχει it sufficeth, it is enough, NTest.
