βλασφημέω βλάσφημος

1.to drop evil or profane words, speak lightly or amiss of sacred things, βλ. εἰς θεούς Plat.: to utter ominous words, Aeschin.
2.to speak ill or to the prejudice of one, to speak slander, περί τινος Dem.; εἴς τινα id=Dem.:—also, βλ. τινα Babr., NTest.:—Pass. to have evil spoken of one, id=NTest.
3.to speak impiously or irreverently of God, to blaspheme, id=NTest.
