3.Pass., of fever-heat, to be burnt or parched up, Thuc.: metaph. of passion, Pind., etc. burn and destroy (in war), τέμνειν καὶ κ., κ. καὶ πορθεῖν to waste with fire and sword, Xen.
IV.of surgeons, to cauterise, τέμνειν καὶ κάειν to use knife and cautery, Plat., Xen.
