θιγγάνω cf. Lat. te-tig-i lengthd. from Root ΘΙΓ. touch, handle, c. gen., Trag. take hold of, τινός Soph., etc.; ὠλέναις θ. τινός to embrace, Eur. touch, attempt, λόγου γλώσσηι θ. Soph.:—in hostile sense, to attack, θηρός Eur.
II.metaph. of the feelings, to touch, id=Eur.; ψυχῆς, φρενῶν θ. id=Eur.; πολλὰ θιγγάνει πρὸς ἧπαρ reach to the heart, Aesch. reach, gain, win, τινός Pind., etc.:—Pind. uses it in this sense, as he does ψαύω, c. dat.
