I.v. dep. n. [id.], to receive pay, to serve for pay (very rare): “regi eorum peditum sexcenta M. stipendiantur,Plin. 6, 19, 22, § 68.—Transf.: (infantes Pontici) butyro stipendiati, serving for butter, getting butter for pay, i. e. for their maintenance, Tert. adv. Marc. 3, 13.
