Quaeque; the Lernaean Hydra, a monster with seven, nine, fifty, some say a hundred heads. What made this encounter the more terrible, was, that any one of the heads being cut off, two others sprang up in its place. Hercules, however, overcame this difficulty, by causing Iolaus to apply a brand to the neck cut off, by which means the flux of blood was stopped.
