). The daughter of Cepheus, king of Aethiopia,
and Cassiopea. In consequence of her mother boasting that the beauty of her daughter surpassed
that of the Nereids, Poseidon sent a sea-monster to lay waste the country. The oracle of Ammon
promised deliverance if Andromeda was given up to the monster, and Cepheus was obliged to
chain his daughter to a rock. Here she was found and saved by Perseus, who slew the monster

associates were slain. After her death she was placed among the stars.
