Chaŏnes

Χάονες). A Pelasgian people, one of the three peoples which inhabited Epirus, were at an earlier period in possession of the whole of the country, but subsequently dwelt along the coast from the river Thyamis to the Acroceraunian promontory, which district was therefore called Chaonia. By the poets, Chaonius is used as equivalent to Epiroticus (Ἠπειρωτικός).
