A sort of rude shoe, made of untanned ox-hide, placed under the foot, and tied with several thongs in such a way as to cover the whole foot and part of the leg (Lucian, Alex. p. 246; Xen. Anab. iv. 5, 14).

A skin-covered structure used by besiegers. See Testudo.
