Δηϊάνειρα or Δῃάνειρα). The daughter of Althaea and Oeneus, and sister of Meleager. Acheloüs and Heracles both loved Deianira, and fought for the possession of her. Heracles was victorious, and she became his wife. She was the unwilling cause of her husband's death, by presenting him with the poisoned shirt which the Centaur Nessus (q.v.) gave her.
