（Δηϊόκης). First king of Media, who after the Medes had
thrown off the supremacy of the Assyrians, reigned B.C. 709-656. He built the city of
Ecbatana, which he made the royal residence. He was succeeded by his son Phraortes (Herod.i. 16).
