Eleuthĕro-Lacōnes

A title conferred by Augustus on a considerable part of the Laconian nation, consisting of several maritime towns, for the zeal which the inhabitants had early testified in favour of the Romans. Enfranchisement and other privileges accompanied the title (Pausan. iii. 21).
