Erymanthus

（Ἐρύμανθος).

A mountainchain in the northwest angle of Arcadia, celebrated in fable as the haunt of the savage boar destroyed by Heracles (Apollod. ii. 5.3; Pausan. viii. 24; Ho mer, Od. vi. 103). Apollonius places the Erymanthian monster in the wilds of Mount Lampea; but this mountain was that part of the chain where the river Erymanthus took its rise.

A river of Arcadia, descending from the mountain of the same name, and flowing near the town of Psophis. After receiving another small stream, called the Aroanius, it joins the Alpheus on the borders of Elis. The modern name of the Erymanthus is the Dogana.
