) or Corduēné.
A mountainous district in the south of Armenia Major,
between the Arissa Palus (Lake Van) and the Gordyaei Montes (Mountains of Kurdistan). Its
warlike inhabitants, called Gordyaei, or Cordueni, were no doubt the same people as the
Carduchi of the earlier Greek geographers, and the modern Kurds. The Gordyaei Montes separate
the valley of the Tigris from the great table-land of Iran.
