Indigĕtes

The name of those indigenous gods and heroes at Rome who once lived on earth as mortals, and were worshipped after their death as gods. Thus Aeneas, after his disappearance on the banks of the Numicus, became a deus indiges, pater indiges, or Inpiter Indiges; and in like manner Romulus became Quirinus, and Latinus, Iupiter Latiaris.
