Phegeus

（Φηγεύς). A king of Psophis in Arcadia. He was the father of Arsinoë, Pronoüs, Agenor, Temenus, and Axion. He purified Alcmaeon (q.v.) after he had slain his mother, and gave him Arsinoë (or Alphesiboea) in marriage. Alcmaeon presented her with the necklace and peplus of Harmonia; but wishing to get them back for his new wife, Callirrhoë, he was slain by the sons of Phegeus at their father's bidding. The sons of Alcmaeon then put Phegeus to death (Pausan. vi. 17, 4; viii. 24, 4; ix. 41, 2; Apollod. iii.7.6).
