Rubĭco

and Rubĭcon. A small river in Italy, falling into the Adriatic a little north of Ariminum, forming the boundary in the republican period between the province of Gallia Cisalpina and Italia proper. It is celebrated in history on account of Caesar's passage across it at the head of his army, by which act he declared war against the Senate. See Iul. 31; and the article Caesar.
