A philosophical school founded by Pyrrho of Elis (about B.C. 365-275), which refused to acknowledge that truth was obtainable by the perception of the senses and the cognizance of the mind. In existing literature it is chiefly represented by the physician Sextus Empiricus. See Philosophia.
