Tritogenīa
(
Τριτογένεια). A surname of Athené, derived by
some from Lake Tritonis in Libya, by others from the stream Triton near Alalcomenae in
Boeotia; and by the grammarians from
τριτώ, which, in the
dialect of the Athamanians, is said to signify “head” (cf.
Il. v. 875;
Apollod. i.3.6). See
