Capăneus
(
Καπανεύς). Son of Hipponoüs, and one of the
seven heroes who marched against Thebes. He was struck by Zeus with lightning as he was
scaling the walls of Thebes, because he had dared to defy the god. While his body was burning,
his wife Evadné leaped into the flames and destroyed herself. See
Seven Against Thebes.
