Cartēa

(also called Carthaea, Carpia, Carpessus). More anciently Tartessus; a celebrated town and harbour in the south of Spain, at the head of the gulf of which Mount Calpé forms one side, founded by the Phœnicians, and colonized B.C. 170 by 4000 Roman soldiers.
