λέσχη). A word of uncertain etymology, perhaps connected
with
λέγω (
Gk. Etym. 366), and denoting a
lounging-place, a resort for idlers, such as the porticoes at Rome, the bakeshops, and the
bath-houses. In the Dorian countries it was the name of a sort of club-room (
Plut. Lyc. 25). See Curtius,
