Solea

A sandal, consisting of a sole bound by a strap across the instep (Festus, s. h. v.).

Solea Spartea, a shoe or boot of Spanish brown (sparta) used for protecting the diseased feet of cattle (Columell. vi. 12, 3).


3.

Solea Ferrea, a shoe for horses and mules made of metal (Sueton. Nero, 30; Vesp. 23), but bound on the hoof and not fastened with nails.
