CONQUISITO´RES

CONQUISITO´RES persons employed to go about the country and impress soldiers when there was a difficulty in completing a levy. (Liv. 21.11, 113; 21.21, 13; 23.32, 19; Cic. pro Mil. 25, 67; ad Att. 7.21, 1; Hirt. B. Alex. 2; cf. Plaut. Merc. 3.4, 80.) Sometimes commissioners were appointed by a decree of the senate for the purpose of making a conquisitio. (Liv. 25.5, 9.)
