DECE´MPEDA

DECE´MPEDA a pole ten feet long, used by the agrimensores in measuring land. (Cic. pro Mil. 27, § 74; Phil. 14.4.10; Hor. Carm. 2.15.14.) Thus we find that the agrimensores were sometimes called decempedatores (Cic. Phil. 13.18, § 37). The decempeda was in fact the standard land-measure. [ACTUS; AGRIMENSORES.]
