AXON a river of Caria, mentioned by Pliny (5.28), with Calynda: “flumen Axon, oppidum Calynda.” We may, perhaps, infer that Calynda was on or near the Axon. Leake places the Axon immediately west of the gulf of Glaucus. [G.L]
