BRENTHE

BRENTHE (Βρένθη: Eth.Βρενθαῖος, Eth. Βρενθιεύς), a town of Arcadia in the district Cynuria, near the right bank of the river Alpheius, and on a small tributary called Brentheates (Βρενθεάτης), only 5 stadia in length. It corresponds to the modern Karítena. (Paus. 8.28.7, 5.7.1; Leake, Morea, vol. ii. p. 292; Ross, Reisen im Peloponnes, vol. i. p. 90.)
