) and the promontory of Uephas at the mouth of the Red Sea (Straits of Bab-el-Mandeb
The river (Δάφνων μέγας,
sometimes denominated Ἀκάνναι, Ptol. 4.1.101
) lay a little eastward of the town Daphnon, and formed its harbour. The Promontory of Uephas sheltered this port from the east wind, and broke the force of the current at the entrance of the Straits. [W.B.D
