There can be no doubt that it is the same as that called by Pliny Nitrias (vi, 23. s. 26), which he states was held by a colony of pirates.
The author of the Periplus speaks of a place, in this immediate neighbourhood, named Naura, and which is, in all probability, the same as Nitrae. (Peripl. Mar. Erythr.
