ONOBRISATES

Eth. ONOBRISATES a people of Aquitania, as the name stands in the common texts of Pliny (4.19); who has “Onobrisates, Belendi, Saltus Pyrenaeus.” D'Anville (Notice, &c.) ingeniously supposes that Onobrisates ought to be Onobusates, which is the least possible correction; and he thinks that he discovers the old name in the modern Nébousan, the name of a canton on the left side of the Neste towards the lower part of its course. The Neste is one of the branches of the Garonne, and rises in the Pyrenees.
