TIMONITIS
TIMONITIS (
Τιμωνῖτις), a district in the interior of Paphlagonia, near the borders of Bithynia. (
Strab. xii. p.562;
Ptol. 5.1.12.) Pliny (
5.42) mentions its inhabitants under the name of Timoniacenses, and Stephanus B. knows Timonium (
Τιμώνιον) as a fort in Paphlagonia, from which the district no doubt derived its name.
