TIMONITIS

TIMONITIS (Τιμωνῖτις), a district in the interior of Paphlagonia, near the borders of Bithynia. (Strab. xii. p.562; Ptol. 5.1.12.) Pliny (5.42) mentions its inhabitants under the name of Timoniacenses, and Stephanus B. knows Timonium (Τιμώνιον) as a fort in Paphlagonia, from which the district no doubt derived its name.
